The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday honoured its martyrs from Tripura on the occasion of mini marathon “Run-For-Martyrs”.
About 1700 persons, who participated in the 5 KMs run, include people from all walks of life including ladies, children, old aged persons, CRPF, Assam Rifle, TSR-apart from BSF officials.
The run was flagged off on Saturday morning from Vivekananda stadium by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. A K Shukla, DGP, Tripura and Rajiv Singh, Additional DGP (Law and Order) besides other senior dignitaries were also present during the function.
In his speech, the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb acknowledged the tough challenges faced by BSF troops in performing their duties while also saluting the martyrdom of soldiers, who lost their lives defending the sovereignty of the nation.
The Chief Minister also solemnly paid floral tributes to the BSF Martyrs and felicitated family of Martyrs present on occasion.
Earlier, H K Lohia, IG of Tripura Frontier of BSF said that the force has been conducting these marathons since 2012 to salute its martyrs.
He also apprised the visitors and guests about the various gallantry awards and medals received by BSF in pursuant to their supreme sacrifice and selfless service to the nation.
The IG also lauded the spirit of patriotism and contribution in national security showed by the people of Tripura and this is evident from the number of brave soldiers that the state has produced. It may be mentioned that 20 martyrs of the BSF are from Tripura.
Later, Deputy Chief Minister, Jishnu Devvarma attended the gathering during prize distribution ceremony, held on Saturday morning at frontier headquarters of BSF at Salbagan.
On this occasion, 8 families of martyrs were honoured by Jishnu Debbarma.
