AGARTALA | August 15, 2019:
The office of a local daily ‘The Tripura Times’ was allegedly attacked by one of the suspended guest lectures of Tripura University accompanied by few miscreants on Wednesday evening. Two staffs of the news paper were reported to be injured during the attack.
Sources said that, the alleged guest lecture of TU, Moti Kapoor from Maharashtra was suspended after media reports on him singing, dancing and karate practice inside a class room was published. He had accused the local media for his suspension.
Kapoor along with a group of unidentified miscreants had attacked the office of Tripura Times and had also threatened the staffs who were present in the office.
It was reported that two of the office staff members were injured during the attack; the two have been identified as Joydip Chakraborty- a senior reporter and Soumen Bhattacharjee, who is presently the manager of the news daily.
Following the incident, the staff members of the news daily had lodged an FIR at West Agartala police station for an immediate and appropriate action against these miscreants.
In an FIR filed by Joydip Chakraborty, it stated that both Kapoor and one Samar Chakraborty had entered Justice Lodh’s residence, but were unable to enter as it was locked. They tried to vandalize the entrance of the chamber of Justice Lodh. Later, the duo barged into the office complex of the news daily and assaulted two staff members who were present.
The FIR also stated that both the accused had also threatened them and claimed that a report published on Moti Kapoor’s actions during his class at the university on August 10th last was baseless. Though, the staffs of Tripura Times tried to convince Kapoor that the news was filed on the basis of a video, which went viral on different social media platforms but they continued to thrash both the employees.
