Tripura witnessed the first meeting of the ‘NITI FORUM’ (a unit of NITI Aayog) which was held in the State Guest House at Agartala on Tuesday. Chief Minister of North Eastern states along with DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh and high ranked officials of the government of India were among the attendees of the meeting whose aim was to discuss the steps required for the sustainable development of the entire North-Eastern region.
“In the first meeting the Forum has identified five sectors – tourism, food processing, bamboo, horticulture and Make in Northeast. These are the five sectors on which the government will focus to speed up inclusive and sustainable economic growth of the region”, said NITI Aayog vice chairman Rajeev Kumar.
He further added, “all the developmental projects in the Northeast will be based on the Central government’s concept of highways, inland water, railways and airways (HIRA). Emphasis will be laid on human resource development through education, health and skill development in the region.” Air connectivity between all state capitals of the Northeastern states and implementation of UDAN-3 which will make air connectivity among the Northeastern states cheap and viable for various sections of the people was also discussed in the meeting.
The meeting also focused on 14 Aspirational Districts of the North Eastern region in which Dhalai District of the state has been identified as one such district.
“Special emphasis will be made to ensure all-round development of these districts”, said the vice chairman of NITI Aayog in a media briefing after the meeting.
