Time Zones : An enigma and the logic of diversity — By Tapas Dey

    By TAPAS DEY | April 29, 2018

Time zones-or having different time zones in a vast and diverse country like India- had been of abiding  interest to Tripura’s former and longest serving chief secretary V. Thualisidasa who headed the state’s  executive as top administrator for long eight years between 1995 and 2003. This had a lot to do with  Thulasidasa’s personal experience as a young IAS officer proceeding to his maiden place of posting in Tripura. He had to spend the night in a rest room at Dum Dum airport in Calcutta and he had duly  alerted the attendant to wake him up sharp at 7-30 AM . Thulasidas wake up on his own next morning to  searing sunlight seeping through the glass panes of windows and doors and at once concluded that he had  missed the morning flight to Agartala. He had called out to the attendant and when the poor fellow turned up he was about to chide him severely for failure to wake him up at time .

OPINION | Biplab Deb, a motor-mouth CM lacking in grace, decorum and statesmanship

              By Patricia Mukhim

It is said that very few can handle power with grace. Former Tripura Chief Minister, Manik Sarkar executed his role as the CM of Tripura with elan and never drew attention to himself by speaking out of turn. The person who has stepped into his shoes, Biplab Deb of the BJP is a motor-mouth lacking in grace, decorum and statesmanship.
