As the dates draw closer for the Lok Sabha Elections in Tripura, speculations are rife about the candidature of various political parties ahead of polls.
While the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is yet to decide on the Lok Sabha candidates to represent West Tripura (General Seat) and East Tripura (Reserved Seat for ST), various reports are doing the rounds that Samir Ranjan Barman is the main contender from the West Tripura general seat and Rajmata Bibhu Kumari Devi (mother of royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma) might be the candidate of Congress party for the East Tripura (Reserved) Lok Sabha seat.
However speaking to TNT- The Northeast Today, TPCC Vice President Tapas Dey said, ” All the names which have featured in some media house are based on speculations. Nothing has been decided as yet. When we will decide about our party candidates we will declare it ourself”, he said while adding, “Everything will be decided after TPCC President Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma comes back from Delhi.”
Rajmata Bibhu Kumari Devi could not be reached out for any response.
Many senior leaders of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) such as Lakhi Nag, Baptu Chakraborty, Prasanta Bhattacharjee have applied to be the candidate of Congress Party from the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat but for the East Tripura (Reserved) Lok Sabha seat only Hollywood Chakma (Youth Congress Vice-President) has put forward his candidature from the congress party.
It may be recalled that AICC recently appointed Royal Scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma as the new TPCC President. After taking the charge Debbarma has initiated several efforts to resolve the internal clashes among different sections of TPCC by bringing in all senior and youth leaders together.
Former TPCC President and stalwart Congress leader Birajit Sinha is also said to be in the race for contesting from West Tripura Lok Sabha seat and sources in if sources in congress party are to be believed he might turn out to be the dark horse in the race. Though Sinha has clearly ruled out any information about it by saying, “ I have no idea about selection of candidature nor have I applied to be a candidate. I am a soldier of the Congress party and whatever party decides will follow that”.
