AGARTALA | January 9, 2019:

The central government has decided to stop free supply of ration to 35000 Bru refugees, who came from Mizoram 22 years ago and have been residing in six camps in Kanchanpur and Panisagar sub-divisions of North Tripura District from January 15 next.

Abhedananda Baidya, Sub-divisional Magistrate of Kanchanpur said that they have received instructions from the Centre to discontinue free ration to the refugee camps and the administration also preparing to withdraw its ration distribution office from January 16.

The distribution of free relief was stopped first time from November 1 last year after the refugees refused to return to their ancestral home in Mizoram, following a four corner agreement. Apart from the refugee representatives, other signatories in the agreement were the governments of Mizoram and Tripura and the Union home ministry.
