Agartala: As Tripura reels under the shock of death of Lahiri Debbarma, a class XII student who hanged herself to death on May 25 after being accused of theft at a departmental store, cries for justice to the deceased continue to grow louder with each passing day.

The Twipra Students’ Federation held a protest rally on June 1 demanding justice for Lt. Lahiri Debbarma. the march was held at Barakhatul, Sadar North Division. The rally came after TSF warned the authotities on May 29 that if proper investigation was not conducted into the matter, they would organize a statewide agitation in this regard.
The TSF has demanded a high level inquiry into the matter demanding CCTV footage to be brought out into the ope, It may be mentioned that lt. Lahiri’s mother had also demanded for the CCTV footage to be made public.
The TSF also thanked the state government for financially compensating the deceased’s family and also for their speedy action in handing over the case to CID.
It may be mentioned however that despite all this, no action has been taken so far against the main culprit. another main takeaway from the TSF rally was their demand for the application of SC/ST prevention of Atrocities Act to arrest and punish the guilty. They also pleaded to the authorities that Big Bzar be stopped from functioning until the final judgement made by court.
The TSF Guwahati chapter also held a protest rally on May 30 to demand justice for the deceased. Speakibg to TNt- the Northeast Today, President, TSF- Guwahati, Kamal Kalai said, “We demand free, fair and impartial investigation on this case. The guilty must be booked as soon as possible”.
