AGARTALA | NOV 23, 2019:

An inquiry has been ordered by the Tripura government against the list of surrendered extremists which was prepared by the Tripura United Indigenous Peoples’ Council for granting government rehabilitation package. The probe was initiated following an array of fake names which appeared in the list.

The Panchayat secretaries of all the 18 villages that falls under Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council has been entrusted with the task of physical verification of antecedents of the names appeared in the list.

It is learnt that the TUIPC had submitted a list of 950 ex-militants who qualify to get government rehabilitation. The matter came into light after suspicion over the large number of names included in the list, who subsequently started inquiring about the status of their package.

A preliminary investigation revealed that many names that never joined in any militant group and leading a normal life have appeared in the list. When the matter was delayed some people started inquiring about the matter and alleged that some of the TUIPC leaders must have enlisted their names in exchange of money.

It is learnt that the investigating officers have already received several written allegation against some of the leaders and a final list of fake names will be prepared soon.
