A protest rally was organised today by the ‘ Twipra Dophani Sikla Motha ‘ (TDSSM) against the on going National Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. They have also demanded in a memorandum submitted today to the Governor of Tripura that the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) in Tripura should be counted from 15 th October, 1949 onwards.
While speaking to media, one of the members of (TDSSM) said that “We are meeting the Governor in protest against the National Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. We also want that the NRC must be started in Tripura from 15th October, 1949 onwards. We the Indigenous people of the state have became minority in our own state and the nation must take the responsibility for it. So, the government of India must implement NRC in our state from the date Tripura merged with India which is 15th October, 1949.
