AGARTALA | January 11, 2019:
The Tripura government has decided to extend the suspension of SMS and internet services in the state for another 48 hours, in view of apprehensions of law and order problem, following the incident of firing three days ago in Madhav Bari area of Jirania in eastern part of Agartala, in which six people had received bullet injuries.
A protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016 had turned violent and the authorities had shutdown internet and SMS services to prevent rumour mongering and further escalation of violence to other parts of the state, on January 8 last.
According to the previous notification from the state Home Department, the Mobile internet/Data and SMS services were going to be restored today afternoon.
However, in the evening a fresh notification was issued, informing the extension of suspension for the next 48 hours.
