Justice Sanjay Karol, judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court has been recommended as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
Justice Ajay Rastogi, the incumbent Chief Justice of Tripura High Court has been elevated to the Supreme Court as Judge.
While making the recommendation, the Collegium has noted at present that there is no Chief Justice originally from Himachal Pradesh High Court following the retirement of Chief Justice Abhilasha Kumari of the Manipur High Court.
Justice Karol enrolled as a lawyer in 1986 and his areas of practice included constitutional law, taxation, corporate law, criminal law and civil law. He served as an Advocate General of Himachal Pradesh between 1998 and 2003. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 1999.
In March 2007, he was elevated as a judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court and in the month of April this year, he was appointed acting Chief Justice of the High Court. He served in this role until October 5, when Chief Justice Surya Kant Rao took the charge.
