From Our Correspondent, Tripura Daily News | Agartala, April 17, 2018:
Calling for better preventive measures, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today said in a message that Tripura lost property worth over Rs. 13.5 crores to fire last year.
The state is celebrating Fire Service Week since April 14. In a written message today, Chief Minister Deb, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that fire incidents took a heavy toll on human life and property every year.
“Last year, there were cases of fire incidents in our state in which property worth Rs. 13,54,37,620 was destroyed. Therefore, it is better to take preventive measures for safety for life and property instead of repenting later on”, the message reads. Tripura is observing Fire Service Week from April 14 till 20.
Chief Minister Deb today also said that Tripura has 48 operational fire stations and appealed for widespread awareness and publicity of fire safety measures in all of them. “Prevention is always a better option”, he said.
Meanwhile, opposition CPM has trained guns against BJP and Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) for involvement in over a hundred cases of attacks on left party offices and trade union offices where they were burnt to the ground. The attacks started since March 03 when assembly election results were announced, the party claimed.
However, BJP has denied the allegations and said CPM supporters, who tried to defect to the saffron camp, were responsible for such attacks. These “evergreen” elements, as Chief Minister Deb put it, were said not to be entertained in BJP.
