AGARTALA | July 9, 2019:
Keeping in view the rising prevalence of political violence in state, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Pradyot Kishore Debarma urged Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to convene a party meeting immediately.
TPCC held a press meet at Congress Bhawan on Monday evening where Senior Congress leader Gopal Roy, Pijush Kanti Biswas, Tapas Deb and Laxmi Nag including PCC President Kishore Debarma were present.
Addressing the meeting, the TPCC president said that Democracy was never under so much threat as it is now under BJP rule.
Pradyot Kishore Debarma slammed Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and stated that CM Biplab Deb speaks of making the state a model state in three years, but in reality, law and order have collapsed in the entire state making the state a “number one politically violent state in North East”.
He further alleged that opposition candidates were not allowed to file nominations for the scheduled three tier panchayat election, as BJP workers have terrorized the opposition party workers.
Refering to Tripura’s situation as a replicate of Bangladesh and West Bengal, PCC president allegedly said that during the last day of filing nominations, Congress Candidates including some senior leaders were assaulted in front of Police officers and at least twenty Congress workers were injured in different parts of state due to political violence.
He said that in the coming days, the party will fight back democratically, adding that the Congress have emerged as the opposition party within a few span of time while CPM, even after 25 years of ruling in the state have vanish within one year, he said.
