Condemnation from various quarters of society have begun to pour in after sedition charges were pressed against the protesters of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in Tripura for allegedly shouting ‘Objectionable Slogans’.
Rajya Sabha MP, P Chidambaram has now come out in support of Tripura Royal Scion Pradyot Manikya and other Indigenous leaders after sedition charges were pressed against them. Chidambaram was seen commenting from his official Twitter handle:
He said that Section 124A of IPC that defines the offence of ‘sedition’ must go lock, stock and barrel while also commenting on the same thread that In Tripura id one speaks against the CAB, they will be charged with sedition.
It may be recalled that Tripura Police on Feb 3 lodged an FIR against protestors of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016 for uttering objectionable slogans. A statement issued from Tripura Police informed that in the rally, a certain group has been noticed to utter objectionable slogans like ‘Bye Bye India, Hello China’ and ‘Pola Jati, Ulo parti’.
