Tripura Police today destroyed a large number of contraband items worth Rs 4 crores in Budhjung Nagar here.
Speaking to reporters this afternoon, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and chairman of the Drug Disposal Committee L.Darlong , said that as per the directives of Supreme Court, the State Level Drugs Disposal Committee today destroyed a huge amount of contraband drugs worth Rs 4 Crore 14 lakh at Budhjung Nagar here.
“Today we destroyed 6539kg of cannabis, 38 thousand bottles of cough syrup, 64, 215 thousand Yaba tablets and Heroin 370 grams which was seized from 8 districts of the state from two months. As per the guidelines of Supreme Court we are destroying it and it will be a regular process”, he said.
It may be mentioned that Tripura’s incumbent BJP-Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) government had started severe crackdown on illegal drug trade and smuggling since it came to power in March, 2018. Over 70 thousand kg cannabis and huge quantities of heroin, brown sugar, Yabba tablets were recovered during raids by Tripura Police, Revenue Department, BSF and other security agencies since the last 14 months.
