To deal the cases of narcotic smuggling, storage and cultivation with strong hand Tripura government has constituted a three-member advisory board headed by Retired high court judge Justice Swapan Chandra Das.
Two other former state judicial officers of the state – Subir Saha and B K Kilikdar were included as members in the board to review the pending such cases and advised the government and law enforcing agencies about the judicial steps to be taken for stringent action against the accused.
The new government in Tripura headed by Biplab Kumar Deb has declared war against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking from the swearing in stage in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers of nine states on March 9 this year.
The government set up a separate cell in the police to handle the cases of drug smuggling and abuse in the state.
Along with huge seizure of contraband items worth of more than Rs 50 Cr about 350 people including 13 police officers of Tripura were arrested so far in connection with either drug smuggling or abetting such illegal activities across the state.
