AGARTALA, July 20, 2018: State government in order to attract tourist has decided to drape the crest of Mata Tripura Sundari temple at Udaipur in Gomati district with gold and silver.

On Thursday, tourism department official had said that on Wednesday, CM Biplab Kumar Deb had chaired a meeting with Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Trust at the state secretariat. He added that Deb had suggested some steps to attract devotees from across the country.

The temple management trust formed a committee for testing, valuing and weighing of assets and properties under the temple’s possession in March this year.

In an asset testing and evaluation drive held at the temple earlier this month, the trust had recorded 12.95kg gold, 65.176kg silver, a pearl necklace weighing 29 grams and a dollar.

The jewels include gold, silver and other valuables donated by Manikya kings of the princely state to the temple.

The temple is one of the 51 Hindu Shaktipeeths of the country and is considered one of the holiest Hindu shrines. Maharaja Dhanyamanikya installed the idol of Tripura Sundari in 1501 AD on a hillock, 55km from Agartala. It is close to Udaipur, which was then called Rangamati and was the capital of the princely state.

As part of a move to modernize the temple, the authorities will hold a maha jagya on the temple premises during Diwali this year. Monks from Kedarnath temple, Badrinath temple and other holy shrines could be invited to join the holy event.Deb suggested that the temple trust can set up a museum where gold and valuables donated by the kings will be displayed.
Gold and silver donated by devotees will be displayed on drapings around the crest of the temple.
The official said the aim is to present “Matabari” as an attractive destination like the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

He said all sides of the Kalyan Sagar, the holy pond of the temple, would be closed barring two which could be used by devotees to take a holy dip.

“We hope this move will reduce water pollution in the pond. Around 10 bathrooms will be set up near the pond,” the official added.

On May 22, CM Deb formed the trust this year to manage the activities and movable and immovable assets of Mata Tripura Sundari.
