AGARTALA | November 21, 2018:
A security personnel belonging to the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) on Tuesday allegedly shot himself with his service rifle at Tripura’s Kamarmura.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjit Das, 32-years-old hailing from Bilaspur village in Unakoti district and is survived by his wife and a four-year-old daughter.
Sanjit was transferred to TSR’s 2nd battalion camp at Kamarmura, he had recently visited his home on November 15 and resumed duty after returning to the base.
The incident took place at the counter-insurgency force’s 2nd battalion in Jirania sub-division. He was posted on duty as a sentry at the camp between 3-5 AM in the morning of the incident. His dead body was recovered at the force’s camp in Kamarmura at 6:25 in the morning.
An official source informed that Das was on duty as sentry from 3 am till 5 am last and was found dead with a bullet in his head that pierced through the chin from his self-loading service rifle (SLR).
Police said that the reasons for his death are still uncertain.
