AGARTALA, March 21, 2018: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to sanction two Indian Reserve battalions for state armed forces.
The battalion would generate employment for around 2200 youths, as stated in a government release. Deb accompanied by his deputy Jishnu Dev Varma went to Delhi on last Sunday and met central ministers of different departments including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Tuesday, they met Vice President V Naidu, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas – Dharmendra Pradhan, Tribal Affairs Minister – Jual Oram, DoNER minister Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs – Hardeep S Puri. In the meeting with Singh, Deb also discussed about security and border-fencing issues.
Singh assured him to consider installation of CCTV cameras in Indo-Bangla bordering areas on the Tripura side and to set up a central control and monitoring room to keep a close vigil on the activities in the bordering areas. Housing and Urban Affairs minister assured to sanction Rs. 292 crore for several schemes.
Similarly, Tribal Affairs Minister ensured to allocate Rs. 385 crore for construction of schools and toilets in addition to the recurring cost of Rs. 50 crore each year.
The DoNER minister also assured to pump funds to complete the half-done projects. The state is facing a fiscal deficit of Rs. 11,355 crore.
