Though there had been speculations that the Ex-Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar was among the runner ups for the highest post (General Secretary)  in the party organisation as being close to Prakash Karat (Ex-General Secretary of CPI(M) ) who, until today is considered to be the key of power in the party but it seems Sitaram Yechury has taken over the Karat lobby.
