Tripura as a state has a huge untapped horticultural growth prospect and the same was emphasised on by Deputy CM Jishnu Devvarma. The Chief Minister Jishnu Devvarma today attended the Pineapple Festival and Exposition program at Pragya Bhavan. Abhijit Borah Co-Chairman, CII , Sunil Kumar, General Manager O/C NABARD and Dr. U Venkateshwarlu , IAS , principle Secretary department of Agriculture were also present in the program along with the Deputy Chief Minister.
While addressing the program, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Devvarma urged for more Horticultural growth other than just rubber plantation.
“The place of pineapple has been replaced by rubber plantation, whereas Tripura has a better future with horticulture. Today we are discussing about queen pineapple and it shows the seriousness of the Govt. for expanding pineapple business” , said Jishnu Devvarma.
He further added “A huge area of the state has been gripped by rubber plantation which could be used for horticulture. However we need to have a blueprint for it and I am sure that action plan from Govt. of India to industry Dept, NABARD and everything else will help us”.
